How Do Migraine Glasses Work?
It’s all about the science. As many as 90 percent of people living with migraine experience light sensitivity as a migraine symptom. Certain wavelengths of light have been shown to either trigger or worsen migraine attacks, while green light has been shown to be soothing.
Avulux Migraine & Light Sensitivity Lenses filter up to 97 percent of harmful blue, amber and red light while allowing in over 70 percent of soothing green light. These aren’t just glasses to block fluorescent light, like FL-41. In fact, there is no clinical evidence showing FL-41 provides light sensitivity nor migraine relief during a migraine attack.
Avulux is the only light sensitivity lens to ever be proven effective at the highest standard of clinical testing.
Avulux lenses can be an important part of the toolkit for people living with migraine and light sensitivity, and can be safely used together with pharmaceuticals or neuromodulation devices.
Here’s a quick overview of Avulux versus FL-41 and generic blue light glasses:

Do Blue Light Glasses Help With Migraines?
There’s more to light sensitivity than blue light alone. Both blue and amber light affect cells in your eye that secrete melanopsin. That can lead to migraine attacks and increased light-triggered pain.
Avulux lenses are effective in managing light as they absorb harmful light before it enters your eyes. This isn’t just blue light blocking.
Avulux's patented precision lens technology filters up to 97 percent of blue, amber, and red light while allowing in over 70 percent of soothing green light. This may help people living with migraine.
And, unlike blue light lenses, FL-41 tinted lenses, or other kinds of migraine glasses, Avulux lenses were designed to be color neutral so you can find relief comfortably, without affecting your quality of life.
I was having 1 to 2 migraines a week until I got these lenses. Since I've had them I have not had 1 migraine. I can't say I'm cured, but improved so much so that I never want to be without them. This changed my quality of life for the better. I can't thank Avulux enough for giving me my life back.Taylor W.
With Avulux I can now spend time with my family and not have to be stuck in my bedroom (my dark room) all day anymore. My pain is less frequent and less intense. Works better than any medicine I've tried.Rebecca V.
Over the moon happy with my purchase! I tried a few different brands first - Migraine Shields, Axon Optics, and FL-41 glasses off Amazon. I was hesitant to order these mostly because of the price, but after reading the science behind them and the money back guarantee, I thought it was worth a shot. Total game changer! I was diagnosed with Vestibular Migraines and PPPD over a year ago and have struggled with my eyes ever since. The glasses have been a huge help with fluorescent lighting and using my computer. I was an avid cyclist before my diagnosis and am just now starting to get back on the bike. My eyes continued to be a struggle while riding. Today, I gave these a try on my ride and it was absolutely AMAZING! Such a huge help. Made all the difference in the world. Can’t thank you enough Avulux for creating such a helpful product!!Sara
Well, I have had migraines since my 20s. The kind that ruins your entire day, light sensitivity, nausea & often accompanied with vomiting. I just turned 50...and am still dealing. I use Imitrex Injections after trying Ibuprofen & Tykenol combo.
I work on my computer all day for work and am finding I can keep working having these glasses on.
It definitely takes the edge off. I also wear them on days I do not have a headache trying to avoid one coming on.
I am hopeful these will be a great go to. They feel like a warm hug for my eyeballs.
I've not had them for very long but had the less expensive versions they sell at the Optometrist. I love that they do not distort colors and the pair I selected is kind of spunky. :)
If you have migraines you know you ll try anything for relief. I feel these definitely help.
I am planning to send in my prescription bifocals to have the tint & lenses done when I need new glasses.ALEX
I live with chronic migraine and I came across Avulux from seeing several migraine warriors raving on about them on Instagram. I've tried so many things in the past and felt like I had wasted enough money on 'gimmicks' that I was was hesitant to try Avulux. I have a pair of blue-light glasses that I've found helpful, in the past, to reduce tiredness from my eyes for computer work but they certainly did not take the edge off the pain behind my eyes that is often no. 1 migraine symptom. However, given the great reviews, I was keen to give Avulux a go with an open mind. After receiving my pair, I gave it a good 4 weeks before I decided I would give it my verdict. I would wear them as often as I remember, especially for computer work; on days with high glare and even watched a movie at the cinemas with them on.
Verdict? THEY WORK. I now have very little pain behind my eyes. The feeling is like being able to see the world through a soothing lens. I highly recommend everyone with pain in, behind and around their eyes to try them. I mean, $300 is not cheap but if I think about how much I've spent on medication and other migraine treatments, this has been the most worthwhile investment. Try them!! Plus, there's a 60 day money-back trial anyways :) All the best!Josephine L.
I suffer with chronic migraine and suffer with light sensitivity every day. I have tried blue light filter glasses in the past, and whilst to some degree they did help, after a few hours of use I would suffer eyestrain that would turn into a nasty migraine attack, every time. The day the avulux glasses arrived I'd not slept and was experiencing an energy crash and the beginning of a migraine attack, within minutes of popping the glasses on the head pain was pretty much gone, eye strain had disappeared and my eyes just felt as they should, tired.
Since then I have taken to wearing them every day 90% of the day, I've been able to enjoy an evening bowling and playing arcade games with my partner, and not been overwhelmed with bright lights in supermarkets, or friends houses that have 'cool white' lighting.
I no longer have eye strain every evening after all the painful lighting and screens in the day and they have reduced the pain of some migraine attacks, and whilst I still wake up every morning with instant pain from the morning sky (British weather though it may be grey it is far too bright for me when I first wake up) most days it has greatly reduced or gone completely once I've put my glasses on, which has meant my morning routine of having to 'let my brain wake up' is now minutes instead of some times an hour or two. An absolute essential part of my migraine toolkit that I wish I had years ago! I'm hopeful now that I'm armed with my glasses I can start to enjoy more things that were a definite no go before!
I've also received many compliments on the appearance of the glasses!Serena C.
Migraine and light sensitivity can be complex and success can be measured in many ways.
Avulux was made to help people with migraine and light sensitivity get through their days without having to isolate in a dark room.
Certain wavelengths of light have been shown to worsen migraine headache pain and even incite migraine attacks. Avulux precisely filters light at certain areas in the visible light spectrum, they can be worn indoors or outdoors without distorting how you perceive color, and may help people living with migraine.
Whether it's being able to spend your time with family and friends, being able to work under harsh lighting, reducing the impact of light on your daily activities, or walking outside without fear of light, we recognize all of these as successes with Avulux. We offer a 60 day money-back guarantee so you can be sure you're happy with your Avulux glasses.
Yes. However, Avulux lenses are not recommended for driving due to their precision filtration properties.
You can wear Avulux continuously whether you're indoors or outdoors. Wearing Avulux will not dark adapt your eyes (you will not become more light sensitive by wearing Avulux).
We encourage you to wear your glasses during any triggering activities like extended screen time, when exposed to harsh artificial light, or even under sunlight. If not worn continuously, be sure to wear your Avulux glasses as soon as you feel any migraine or light sensitivity symptoms.
It is important that you wear the glasses during daily events that tend to cause your migraine attacks and light-triggered pain to begin, such as prolonged time spent in front of a computer screen, television, smartphone, or under harsh lighting.
Otherwise, you should put on the migraine glasses as soon as you feel migraine or light sensitivity symptoms beginning. This may be the earliest feeling of your typical migraine headache pain, or a typical migraine aura such as visual disturbances, facial tingling, eye strain, eye pain etc.
If you have frequent migraine attacks or have chronic migraine, meaning that you average more than two migraine headaches weekly lasting at least 3 hours a day, you should consider wearing your glasses at all times, whether day or night.
We offer a 60-day home trial period, and if you're not satisfied with how Avulux migraine glasses can help manage light, you may return them in original condition (no scratches nor deformation).
It's important that Avulux is worn before the light-triggered pain becomes unbearable. Research has shown that light-triggered pain can be worsened through continuous exposure to light.
If you feel Avulux isn't helping you manage light as a trigger, we suggest wearing Avulux continuously throughout your day (and while in front of any digital screens or under harsh lighting) for at least two weeks so you can be sure about whether they're helping you manage light.
